June 11th - 13th 2010
The Oregon Park (9U) Raptors are the champions of the Hickory Flat
Bash Tournament held June 10th through the 13th at Thomas Field in
Canton, GA. The Raptors came out of pool play seeded second, then
defeated the Dawsonville Tigers in the first round of tournament play.
On Sunday the first seed Eastside Strikers, the team that had handed
the Raptors their only defeat in pool play defeated their opponents
and then watched as the Raptors dispatched a scrappy Shaw Park Dragons
team. Sammy Millard pitched a very efficient three-hit shutout and
the Raptors bats delivered for a final score of 13 - 0. Despite the
very hot and humid conditions the Raptors only had a 30 minute break
to rest and rehydrate before taking the field against a rested
Strikers team. The Raptors managed to put up two runs early and
steadily added to their lead. Two plays in the second set the tone
for the defense as on successive plays the Raptors Right Fielder and
First Baseman hooked up to erase what could have been singles. The
real story of the game was the pitching of Hayden "Haydo" Green, who
tossed a complete game no-hitter defeating the Strikers 9-0. In the
end the Raptors had vanquished two teams in less than four hours,
giving up only three hits and no runs while committing only one error
to earn the mantle of Tournament Champions.
